Research mode vs default mode

The AI assistant has two modes. Default mode is built for fast, conversational help. Research mode is built for thorough, sourced answers to harder legal questions. You choose the right tool for the question in front of you.

Default mode is the everyday setting. It is quick, conversational, and light on credits — ideal for understanding a document, talking through your options, or asking what a deadline means. Most of your interaction with the assistant happens here.

• Best for: explanations, brainstorming, quick questions
• Speed: fast
• Credit cost: lower

Research mode digs deeper. It is designed for questions where you need the relevant rules, procedural steps, and citations — for example, "What are the requirements for a motion to set aside a default judgment in California?" It takes longer and uses more credits, because it is doing more work.

• Speed: slower and more thorough
• Credit cost: higher

A good rule of thumb: start in default mode to understand your situation and frame your question, then switch to research mode when you need a rigorous, sourced answer before taking a real step. There is no penalty for moving between them within the same case.
